Eric Johnson, PGA Director of Instruction at Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, has been named the 2023 Teacher & Coach of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Section PGA.  Johnson is a 26-year Member of the PGA and this marks the fifth time he has been recognized with a Teacher & Coach of the Year Award, the first time in our Section.  In addition, Johnson has received four Horton Smith Awards, and accolades from Golf Digest for his teaching.

The Teacher & Coach of the Year Award bestows special recognition upon a Rocky Mountain Section PGA golf professional that has performed outstanding service as a golf instructor. The honoree is chosen based on his or her performance, leadership, image, promotion of the game of golf, and impact on teaching and golf instruction as well as their involvement in junior activities at their facility in addition to innovative contributions to golf instruction and published articles.

There are those that teach and then there are those that are born to teach.  Eric is clearly the latter showing his lifelong love for complementing instruction with technology.  He analyzes every student in front of him, assessing the best approach to instruction taking into account, body type, flexibility and various other factors to provide his student a truly personalized learning experience.  Johnson’s teaching doesn’t stop on the lesson tee.  He hosts specialized instruction including on-course time, multi-day schools, and collaborative clinics with other noted instructors.

Johnson’s list of contributed articles, videos, and published material over the last 20+ years is too long to list.  His desire to share and learn is key to his success as he continues to perfect his craft with the latest and greatest techniques blended with good old-fashioned fundamentals.  Eric was mentored by the great Jim Flick for 10 years and has worked with more than 100 professionals across the country with an endless desire to be the most complete instructor he can.

Johnson will formally receive his 2023 Rocky Mountain Section PGA Teacher & Coach of the Year Award during the 2024 RMSPGA Annual Meeting next May.
