Tabuena, Hartnett, Gerrish Capture Idaho Open Hardware

The 2021 Idaho Open presented by First Tee Idaho saw a bit of everything over the last 3 days and earning these titles was no easy task.  Quail Hollow Golf Course in Boise, Idaho, put its absolute best foot forward and provided a challenge to a very deep field.  Neither frost, blazing fast greens, howling wind gusts nor the Corona virus could keep Overall Champion Miguel Tabuena, Senior Champion Steve Hartnett, and Low Amateur Landen Gerrish, from hoisting their respective trophies.

Miguel Tabuena, a professional player from Bellevue, WA, came over for a visit and fired a 3-round total of 14-under-par, with rounds of 65-63-68=196, to win the 2021 Idaho Open crown by four shots over Berkeley, CA, PGA teaching professional Brad Marek and 7 shots clear of last year’s champion Jamie Hall from Seattle, WA.  Tabuena really won the tournament in the second round.  That round of 63 in absolutely brutal wind on the second nine was remarkable by any standard and the cushion he built was just too much to overcome.  The low amateur honors for this year’s Idaho Open went to 17-year-old Landen Gerrish from Boise, Idaho, whose 5-over-par finish, with rounds of 73-69-73=215, earned him the crystal.

On the senior side of things, amateur Steve Hartnett from Boise, ID, took both the overall senior title and the low senior amateur honors with his brilliant play firing rounds of 70-66-71=207 to finish at 3-under-par and a dominating 8-shot win over another amateur Brian Swenson of Meridian, ID.  Alone in third place was PGA Life Member Jeff Marsh from Vancouver, WA, a single shot behind Swenson.

The Rocky Mountain Section PGA and its Foundation wish to sincerely thank First Tee Idaho Executive Director Nick Blasius, PGA, for his tireless work and support of this year’s Idaho Open.  In addition, thanks must be sent to host PGA Head Professional Matt Ennis, PGA Director of Instruction Jim Empey, Superintendent Ben Doherty, and the rest of the wonderfully willing and helpful staff and their locals at Quail Hollow for taking great care of all of us during the championship.
