Somers & Bryson and Allbright & Luthy better than the rest!
Mother Nature could not possibly have been kinder to the professionals of the Rocky Mountain Section PGA at the annual Fall Pro-Pro sponsored by Cobra Puma Golf and supported by JC Golf Accessories, Dynamic Brands, ROLEX and The PGA TOUR.
As the sun shined, Katie Somers, PGA Director of Instruction at River Birch Golf Course in Star, Idaho, and her partner Ben Bryson, PGA Head Professional at RedHawk Golf Course in Nampa, Idaho, teamed with rounds of 66-67=133, which was good enough to garner a playoff with Idaho Falls pros Tyson Bowen, PGA Assistant Professional at Sage Lakes Golf Course and Travis Hackett, PGA Assistant Professional at Idaho Falls Country Club. Their rounds of 64-69=133, advanced them to some bonus golf to determine the 2022 champions. The teams traded easy pars on the first playoff hole, but when Somers 35-foot bomb dropped on the second playoff hole, neither Bowen nor Hackett could answer.
On the Senior side of things, the familiar duos of Greg Allbright, PGA General Manager of the Highland and Riverside Golf Courses in Pocatello, Idaho, and PGA Life Member, Fred Luthy, and Tad Holloway, PGA Head Professional at Timber Stone Golf Course in Caldwell, Idaho, with his partner Steve Meyerhoeffer, PGA General Manager of Twin Falls (Idaho) Municipal Golf Course, battled to a tie as well with two-round totals of 4-under-par, 140. An absolute mess of a playoff hole included two shots out-of-bounds, a ball in a bunker, some trees and probably a solar flare, but Allbright and Luthy prevailed through the laughter.
Conditions were truly spectacular both days of the RMSPGA Fall Pro-Pro presented by Cobra/Puma Golf and representative Darrin Vaughan, PGA, and supported by Chris Jenkins of JC Golf Accessories, Mike Langley of Dynamic Brands, and ROLEX and The PGA TOUR.
The two-round format (Better Ball of Partners in round 1 and Modified Alternate Shot for round 2) was contested at the par 72, 6,720-yard Idaho Falls Country Club in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on October 3-4, 2022. The Rocky Mountain Section PGA would like to extend its thanks to Jason Jacobsen, PGA General Manager, and the always hospitable staff at Idaho Falls Country Club for hosting the event and for the care shown to the competitors. The Rocky Mountain PGA also extends its sincerest appreciation to the aforementioned sponsors for their kind and always generous support of the RMSPGA Fall Pro-Pro.
