Holloway Hangs on in Epic Finish…

A 6-shot lead with 5 holes to play… That is the situation Tad Holloway, PGA Head Professional at TimberStone Golf Course in Caldwell, Idaho, put himself in because of his fine play for the first 31 holes.  However, when multi-time Player of the Year Jim Empey, PGA Director of Instruction at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Boise, Idaho, is playing with you in the final group, cruise control is not an option.  Empey blistered TimberStone’s final 9 in 31 shots needing one last putt to drop on the 18th green to force a playoff which he barely missed.  To Holloway’s credit, he made a gutsy up-and-down on the final hole to save par and survive the Empey onslaught to hoist the championship hardware as the 2022 RMSPGA Senior Section Champion.

The Rocky Mountain PGA Senior Section Championship & Rocky Mountain Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac and supported by Golf Channel, ROLEX & The PGA TOUR was played at the aforementioned TimberStone Golf Course on July 12th & 13th.  Twenty Senior PGA Professionals began the week seeking the Sr. Section Champion Title and an exemption in to the Senior PGA Professional Championship in October at Twin Warriors & Santa Ana Golf Clubs in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.  In addition to Tad and Jim, John Van Vleet, PGA General Manager at Preston (Idaho) Golf & Country Club, finished alone in 3rd place to capture the final qualifying position.

The Section would like to express our sincere gratitude to Host PGA Professional Tad Holloway and his wonderfully willing staff for hosting our Senior Championship.  The golf course was in true championship condition and a delight to play.  Special kudos to the maintenance crew for keeping the course so primed despite 100 degree heat!  Thanks also go out to presenting sponsor Cadillac and to the supporting sponsors Golf Channel, ROLEX & The PGA TOUR.
