ROBERT HOLMES IS THE 2021 RMSPGA ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

Robert Holmes, PGA Assistant Professional at The Club at SpurWing in Meridian, Idaho, has been named the 2021 Assistant Golf Professional of the Year in the Rocky Mountain Section PGA.  The Assistant Professional of the Year Award is an honor paid to a Rocky Mountain Section PGA assistant golf professional who has distinguished themselves through his/her service to the facility, Section/Chapter and community.  Holmes earned his PGA Membership in 2016 and has served The Club at SpurWing the entire time.

Holmes believes assistant professionals are extremely important assets to their facilities and the game in general.  He is a servant at heart and relishes the daily opportunities to take care of SpurWing’s members and their guests.  Not only does Bobby serve his club’s membership, he is always willing to lend a hand to his fellow professionals.  During transitions to different software platforms, Bobby has been a willing tutor to any seeking his guidance.  He made sure to learn the nuances thoroughly on his own time so that he would be an expert user and mentor.  This example of his attention to detail only enhances every event in his charge.

As the first assistant at The Club at SpurWing, Holmes’ “Above & Beyond” mentality is key to being a leader.  Among his many responsibilities, including running the day-to-day operations of the golf shop, scheduling, training employees, and creating procedures, all require his keen eye for detail.  He realizes different people have different skill sets and putting staff in the right role leads to the overall operation running as smooth as possible.  Bobby also encourages everyone in his charge to go outside their comfort zone and be willing to learn as much as possible to become well-rounded staffers and professionals.

Bobby believes junior golf is the future of the game and has served as captain of The Club at SpurWing’s PGA Jr. League teams the last five seasons.  In addition to his daily duties, Bobby spends a good deal of time focused on the club’s junior programs.  He has developed a strong commitment and a passion for growing the game.  Holmes uses the junior program to introduce kids to competitive golf and teaches them how to transfer their skills learned in to a lifetime activity.

This is the first time Holmes has been recognized for a Section award in his young career.  The RMSPGA Assistant Professional of the Year Award will be formally presented to Bobby at the Annual Meeting of the Rocky Mountain Section PGA in May of 2022.
