KENNEDY IS SNAKE RIVER CHAPTER PGA CHAMPION – RIEBER WINS SENIOR BRACKET

The Rocky Mountain Section PGA Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship provided not only a test of golf but a bit of survival of the first hints of early winter.  The final morning felt more like a Bay Area summer with cold, gloomy and moist air.  The finalists used all the gear they had to keep the joints warm.  Perhaps the Canadian lineage helped, and in the end, Brett Kennedy, assistant professional from the River Club in Boise, Idaho, came alive on the final three holes to overtake past champion, PGA Head Professional Ben Bryson from RedHawk Golf Course in Nampa, Idaho, in 19 holes.  Kennedy was 2 down with 3 holes to play, and after dropping a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to push the match to extra holes, his par on the 19th hole was good enough after Bryson suffered a brutal lip-out for his par.

On the senior side, PGA Teaching Professional Lance Rieber from Warm Springs Golf Course in Boise, Idaho, ground out a 4 & 3 victory over past champion Jim Empey, PGA Director of Instruction from The Valley Club in Sun Valley, Idaho.  Rieber, the newly minted 50-year-old, showed no weakness in his 4 matches, running the table to collect the winner’s hardware in the Senior (50 & over) match play bracket.

The Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship presented by Bridgestone and supported by All Star Pro Golf, Sterling Cut Glass, Maui Jim, Dynamic Brands, ROLEX and The PGA TOUR was contested at the picturesque 6,646 yard, par-72 layout at Blue Lakes Country Club in Twin Falls, Idaho, on October 13th and 14th.
