ZACH ABELS SELECTED AS 2020 RMSPGA TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Zach Abels, the PGA Head Professional at Canyon Springs Golf Course in Twin Falls, Idaho, has been named the 2020 Teacher of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Section PGA.  Abels was elected to PGA membership in 2014 and this marks the third time he has been recognized with a Section award having previously garnered the Junior Golf Leader Award in 2016 and the Player Development Award in 2019.

The Teacher of the Year award bestows special recognition on a Rocky Mountain Section PGA golf professional that has performed outstanding service as a golf instructor. The honoree is chosen based on his or her performance, leadership, image, promotion of the game of golf, and impact on teaching and golf instruction as well as their involvement in junior activities at their facility in addition to innovative contributions to golf instruction and published articles.

For Zach, being an instructor of the game is his passion.  He is responsible for all of the teaching and clinics conducted at his club.  During the last year alone, he has seen increases in virtually every learning program he provides.  Abels has tried to leave no stone unturned when it comes to offering the game as is shown by his various lesson programs for children, specialized programs for women and girls, and providing a welcoming environment for minorities.  Zach works with beginners, budding professionals, and all levels in between, putting good use to all of his learned techniques in becoming a well-rounded, and now award winning, instructor.

Abels is in a constant state of learning his chosen craft.  He uses the American Development Model as much as possible in his teaching.  He is also a US Kids Certified Teacher, True Temper Certified, and uses plenty of the latest technological advances in his teaching and club fitting.  There isn’t much you can avoid learning if you get a chance to spend some time with Zach.  He has devoted his career to teaching golf and strives to envelop his students in dedicated programs involving equipment fitting, game management, and swing mechanics.  Abels will formally receive his 2020 award during the 2021 RMSPGA Annual Meeting next May.
