VERGE & PATTERSON VICTORIOUS

The Rocky Mountain Section PGA Boys and Girls Jr. Championships are in the books and the Section’s best are off to the Junior PGA Championships.

Congratulations go out to 17-year-old Jordan Verge from Bozeman, Montana, as he outlasted a tight field to take the honors by a single stroke in the 2021 Rocky Mountain PGA Boys Junior Championship.  His 73-69=142, 2-under-par total, just edged his twin brother Justus and 16-year-old Derek Lekkerkerk from Twin Falls, Idaho, who both carded 36-hole totals of 1-under-par, 143.  By virtue of their excellent play, the Verge duo earned spots in to the 45th Boys PGA Junior Championship being held July 12-15, 2021, at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Kentucky.  As Justus has a prior commitment, Derek will take his place representing the Section.

Kudos are also in order to Eagle, Idaho’s 17-year-old girls’ champion Brooke Patterson.  Brooke blitzed the field on the final day by firing a tournament low round of 4-under-par, 68.  Her 72-68=140, 4-under-par total earned her the honors by five shots over past champion 18-year-old Carly Carter from Eagle, Idaho.  Alone in third came 18-year-old Samantha Yates from Bozeman, Montana.  Both Patterson and Carter cemented their spots in to the 45th Girls Junior PGA Championship being contested July 27-30, 2021, at the venerable Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
