POLLAND GOES LOW TO CAPTURE 2021 ASSISTANT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
The National Car Rental Rocky Mountain Section Assistant PGA Professional Championship supported by Srixon | Cleveland Golf | XXIO | Asics, John Deere, ROLEX & The PGA TOUR was a shootout between 3-time defending champion Cole Lorenz, PGA Assistant Professional at The Valley Club in Sun Valley, Idaho, and Rocky Mountain Section newcomer Ben Polland, PGA Assistant Professional at Shooting Star in Teton Village, Wyoming.
Round 1 saw our two protagonists match 5-under-par rounds of 67 to earn spots in the final grouping in Round 2 with Tyson Bowen, PGA Assistant Professional at Sage Lakes Golf Course in Idaho Falls, Idaho, who fired his own fine round of 3-under-par 69, at Big Sky (Montana) Resort Golf Course. Polland and Lorenz distanced themselves from the rest of the field after the first 9 in the final round. Polland’s 6-under-par, 30 on the front only gave him a one-stroke edge over Lorenz who kept pace with only 31 shots for the same 9 holes. At the end of the day, Polland’s brilliant final round of 9-under-par, 63, and a 14-under-par, 2-round total of 130, outlasted Lorenz by only 2. Bowen did finish alone in 3rd place shooting a solid round of 71 leading to a 4-under-par, two-round total of 140.
Polland and Lorenz earned spots in to the 2021 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship which will be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL, November 11-14, 2021.
