The National Car Rental Rocky Mountain Section Assistant PGA Professional Championship supported by Srixon | Cleveland Golf | XXIO | Asics, John Deere, OMEGA & The PGA TOUR needed four additional holes to find the 2020 champion and for the third consecutive year, his name is Cole Lorenz.
Lorenz, a PGA Assistant Professional from The Valley Club in Sun Valley, ID, outlasted associate teaching professional Jon McLean from The Club at 3 Creek in Jackson, WY, in an exciting sudden victory playoff. McLean lipped an eagle putt on the first playoff hole and the players traded pars then birdies. The fourth playoff hole saw McLean’s approach to 7 feet with Lorenz staring at 35 feet. Lorenz calmly dead-centered his putt for birdie which proved just enough to win. Lorenz fired rounds of 68-69=137 for a 5-under-par total which was matched by McLean’s 72-65=137. Alone in 3rd place was James Stanofski, associate professional at Yellowstone Country Club in Billings, MT, who shot rounds of 67-71=138.
Lorenz and McLean both earned spots in to the 2020 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship which will be played at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker course in Port St. Lucie, FL, November 12-15, 2020.
The Rocky Mountain Section PGA would like to extend its most sincere thanks to all the tournament sponsors listed above and to PGA Host Professional, John Van Vleet, his staff, and all the fine folks at Preston (Idaho) Golf & Country Club for their kind hospitality.
