Jim Empey, PGA Director of Instruction at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Boise, ID, outlasted a tightly bunched field to win the 2020 Rocky Mountain Section PGA Senior Professional Championship. This is the second time Empey has won the Senior Section Championship having previously done so in 2012. Empey’s two-round total of 75-71=146 was good enough to win by a single shot over Steve Meyerhoeffer, PGA General Manager at Twin Falls (Idaho) Golf Club, who had an eagle putt on the final hole for a tie that just wouldn’t fall. Meyerhoeffer’s rounds of 76-71=147 were two shots clear of third place finisher and past champion Ron Rawls, PGA Head Professional at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, ID. All three gents earned spots in to the 2020 Senior PGA Professional Championship supported by Golf Channel and John Deere to be played in Port St. Lucie, FL, in October.
The Rocky Mountain Section PGA extends its sincere gratitude to host PGA Director of Golf Jeffrey Petersen and his dedicated staff at Sun Valley Golf Resort for their wonderful hospitality and willing assistance in holding our championship. Thanks also to supporting sponsors Golf Channel, John Deere, OMEGA & The PGA Tour. Mother Nature deserves a tip of the cap as well for giving us two truly beautiful days to find our champion.
