Hall, Hamblin, Gliege, Swenson Capture Idaho Open Hardware

The 2020 Idaho Open presented by First Tee of Idaho saw a bit of everything over the last 3 days and earning these titles was no easy task.  Quail Hollow Golf Course in Boise, Idaho, put its absolute best foot forward and provided a challenge to a very deep field.  Neither smoke, thunder and lightning, rain, wind, heat, nor the Corona virus could keep overall champion Jamie Hall, senior champion Mike Hamblin, low amateur Josh Gliege, and low senior amateur Brian Swenson from hoisting their respective trophies.

Jamie Hall, a professional player from Seattle, WA, came over for a visit and fired a 3-round total of 14-under-par, with rounds of 67-63-66=196, to win the 2020 Idaho Open crown by a single shot over Berkeley, CA, PGA teaching professional Brad Marek and 3-shots clear of Rathdrum, Idaho, professional Derek Bayley.  Hall’s birdie putt on the final hole was enough to overtake the charge put on by Marek’s low round of the day, 65.  The low amateur for this year’s Idaho Open went to 22-year-old Josh Gliege from Meridian, Idaho, whose 7-under-par finish, with rounds of 69-66-68=203, earned him the honor.

On the senior side of things, PGA Professional Mike Hamblin added a Senior Idaho Open title to his remarkable 4 previous Idaho Open victories in 1982, 1984, 1990 and 1998. The 60-year-old Hamblin needed two putts on the final green to secure victory with a 2-over-par, 68-71-73=212, total.  Alone in second place, a single shot back, was PGA Life Member Jeff Marsh from Vancouver, WA.  The low senior amateur, Brian Swenson, 51, from Meridian, Idaho, finished solo third, 6 shots off the champion’s total with rounds of 69-76-73=218.

The Rocky Mountain Section PGA and its Foundation wish to sincerely thank First Tee of Idaho Executive Director Nick Blasius, PGA, for his tireless work and support of this year’s Idaho Open.  In addition, thanks must be sent to host PGA Head Professional Matt Ennis, PGA Director of Instruction Jim Empey, Superintendent Ben Doherty, and the rest of the wonderfully willing and helpful staff at Quail Hollow for taking great care of all of us for the championship.
