CARTER SIBLINGS ARE 2019 JUNIOR RMSPGA CHAMPIONS
Day 1 was about excellent conditions and the beginning of the race to the PGA Jr. Championship. The story on Day 2 was perseverance in the wind and heat. The 2019 Junior Rocky Mountain Section PGA Championship held at Canyon Springs Golf Course in Twin Falls, Idaho, was conquered by Zach Carter on the Boys’ side and his big sister Carly Carter for the Girls’ championship.
Zach Carter, 14, from Eagle, Idaho, crafted a final round 1-over-par, 73, for a 36-hole total of 1-under-par, 143, to beat out Joe Gustavel, 17, from Boise, Idaho. In a sudden victory playoff, Carter birdied the first playoff hole to take the overall title and both boys earned spots in to the 44th Boys Junior PGA Championship beginning July 30th at the venerable Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn.
Carly Carter, 16, from Eagle, Idaho, shot a fine final round of 2-over-par, 74, for a 2-round total of 2-over-par 146, to take the Girls’ title by 3 shots. Emily Cadwell, 16, from Boise, Idaho, finished alone in second place. Both girls earned spots in to the 44th Girls Junior PGA Championship also being contested at Keney Park Golf Course in early July.
The Rocky Mountain PGA wishes to express its gratitude to PGA Golf Professionals Brandon Otte and Zach Abels, as well as their willing and helpful staff for their kind hospitality in hosting this most significant junior championship.
