JEGLUM REPEATS AS SNAKE RIVER CHAPTER PGA CHAMPION – EMPEY HOISTS SENIOR TROPHY

The Rocky Mountain Section PGA Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship is the season ending finale for our professionals, and Mother Nature must be complimented for her support.  The weather in the mountains can be iffy in October for sure, but a perfect roll of the dice and fabulous course conditions were the backdrop for our 2024 Match Play Championship.  In the end, Loren Jeglum earned the Chapter Championship for a second consecutive year and Jim Empey hoisted the Senior Chapter Champion’s trophy.

Jeglum, the PGA Director of Instruction at Topgolf in Boise, Idaho, again beat the 2022 champion Justin Snelling, a PGA Assistant Professional at Boise (Idaho) Ranch Golf Course, playing nearly flawless golf finishing off the match 3 & 2 in a repeat of last year’s final.

On the senior side, the final match was between the soon to be Senior Player of the Year, John Van Vleet, and multi-time champion of everything, Jim Empey.  Empey, a PGA teaching professional from host facility, The Valley Club in Sun Valley, Idaho, turned to the second nine holes with a 3-up lead.  An inspired Van Vleet, the PGA General Manager at Preston (Idaho) Golf & Country Club, was not about to give up his perfect season.  He stormed back, squaring the match with two holes to play when Empey’s shot-making took over as he finished off the championship with a 2-up victory.

The Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship presented by Bridgestone Golf and supported by ROLEX and The PGA TOUR was contested at the magnificent Valley Club mentioned above on October 14-15, 2024.
