KATIE SOMERS IS THE 2025 RMSPGA YOUTH PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AWARD WINNER

Katie Somers, the PGA Director of Instruction at River Birch Golf Course in Star, Idaho, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Youth Player Development Award for the Rocky Mountain Section PGA.  Somers has been a member of the PGA of America since 2018 and all things Junior Golf is her passion and focus.

The Youth Player Development Award bestows special recognition upon a PGA Professional who has displayed extraordinary and exemplary contribution and achievement in this field.  Somers is in her 10th year on the board of the Idaho Junior Golf Foundation where this year alone more than $100,000 was raised to help Junior Golf initiatives throughout the state.  $40,000 was distributed in the form of college scholarships to 14 recipients.  Katie is also heavily involved as an instructor for the “Golf with Us” clinic supported by Bank of America, Youth on Course, and First Tee.  This clinic brought 65 children to her home course to work with several instructors on all aspects of the game.  Another 45 kids came to River Birch for a Tumble / Jump Time of Boise clinic Katie hosted.  These unique clinics are only a fraction of the youth programming Somers’ “KTEE Golf” offers.  Her reach continues to grow in all elements of the Junior Golf world locally and abroad.

Outside of the instruction realm, Somers is involved as a Titleist staffer working nationally as part of the Women’s Strategy Panel for the women’s force at Titleist.  She spent a week working with their R&D department, marketing, club fitters, Scotty Cameron, and the ball design team to discuss what Titleist should be attacking in the future for women and children in the game.  In addition, Katie makes excellent use of social media to spread her award winning passion for Junior Golf.

This is the second time Somers has been recognized as the Youth Player Development Award winner, previously being honored in 2023, and her eleventh overall Section honor having won the Assistant Professional of the Year Award in 2017 and eight consecutive Women’s Player of the Year Awards from 2018-2025.  She will be presented with the 2025 RMSPGA Youth Player Development Award next May at the Section Annual Meeting and Awards presentation.
