MILTON, MILLS, BREAUX ARE 2018 MERCHANDISERS OF THE YEAR

Paul-David Milton, PGA Director of Golf at Huntsman Springs in Driggs, Idaho, has been named the 2018 Merchandiser of the Year for private golf course facilities.  Milton has been a member of the PGA of America since 2012 and has loyally served Huntsman Springs for the past 9 years.  This marks the first time he has won a Section award. 

 

Milton’s merchandising philosophy relies on his team pushing their creative limitations to maximize output.  Their challenge is to move as much merchandise at proper margins from a small space and a very short season.  The floor displays are changed every week to keep the shop looking fresh.  Milton and his team do everything together when it comes to merchandising including using analytics and technology to keep in contact with their membership about new arrivals, discount loyalty programs, and special occasion reminders.  Personal relationships at Huntsman Springs are incredibly valuable to Milton’s team and they nurture every opportunity to maximize sales.

 

The PGA Head Professional at Elkhorn Golf Club in Sun Valley, Idaho, Tate Mills, is the 2018 Merchandiser of the Year for resort facilities in the RMSPGA.  This is Tate’s first award as a PGA Member since being elected in 2015.  Tate began his professional career at Sun Valley Resort in 2011 and has been a fixture in the area ever since.

 

Mills thought process is based on guest care.  “100% Guest Satisfaction” is the goal every day and personal attention fosters that level of commitment.  Tate's staff understands people on vacation at a resort want logoed merchandise and the ability to accessorize.  They do their level best to help visitors find anything they need and order for them if something is not in stock.  He makes sure displays are always themed to whatever the calendar, the event, or even the weather has to offer.  The layout of the shop is also vital to their success.  Forcing customers to weave around and shop, exposing them to as much merchandise as possible, helps their bottom line. 

 

Jerry Breaux, the PGA facility manager at BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho, has been recognized as the 2018 Merchandiser of the Year for public facilities.  Breaux has been a PGA Member since 1972 and has spent the last 19 years at BanBury.  This marks the second time Jerry has been recognized in this category having previously claimed this same award in 2003.

 

Breaux strives to offer customers a variety of products with fresh men’s and ladies lines each year.  He feels understanding his clientele’s budget helps purchasing at the proper price points to ensure selling through at margins acceptable to their retail goals.  As far as hard goods are concerned, BanBury sticks with a couple of main lines and they utilize demo offerings from each of their vendors.  Inventory control is also a staple to Jerry’s success.  Being able to identify what is selling and what is not maximizes opportunities for sales.

 

The Merchandiser of the Year Awards are presented to individuals who excel in their abilities to purchase, present and sell golf-related products in the most effective and attractive way possible while providing a high level of service to the customer at their respective golf facilities.  Milton, Mills, and Breaux will receive their awards at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Section PGA Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation next May.
