Heavy Hearts Surround Day 1 of the 2018 RMSPGA Section Championship

Under normal circumstances, the Section Championship is filled with anticipation amidst a palpable buzz in the air.  Unfortunately, tragedy has a way of dampening the spirit and giving one a certain perspective about what in life is important.

Brian Eekhoff, the PGA Head Professional at Cottonwood Hills Golf Club in Bozeman, Mont., was supposed to tee off in the first round of the Rocky Mountain PGA Section Championship at 9:40 a.m. on this glorious Tuesday in August, in the shadow of the Grand Tetons, at Huntsman Springs in Driggs, Idaho.  Fate had other ideas.  On his way in for yesterday’s practice round, Brian’s truck veered off the highway and today became a day of sorrow and reflection.  What happened on the golf course this day was irrelevant.  Brian absolutely would have wanted us to play today, and we did in his honor.

The hearts of all the Members and Associates of the Rocky Mountain Section PGA go out to Brian’s family, friends and colleagues.  He was an absolute joy to be around and he will be deeply missed by all of us that knew him.
