BURTON ADDS CHAPTER SENIOR MATCH PLAY TITLE TO THE TROPHY CASE

Kevin Burton, PGA Director of Instruction at Pierce Park Greens in Boise, Idaho, defeated Fred Luthy, PGA Assistant Professional at Teton Lakes Golf Course in Rexburg, Idaho, 2 & 1 to win the Senior Division crown in the 2016 Rocky Mountain PGA Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship presented by Bridgestone Golf and supported by OMEGA and The PGA TOUR.  Burton won the regular division of this event in 2004 and 2006 and now has added a senior title to his impressive resume.  In the consolation bracket of the senior division, two-time defending champion Tommy Sanderson, PGA Teaching Professional at The Valley Club in Sun Valley, Idaho, outlasted Centennial Golf Course PGA Head Professional John Lewis by a score of 4 & 2.

 

In the regular division, only two players remained from the original field of 23 at the end of the day.  Quarterfinal matches were played in the morning and semifinal matches played in the afternoon.  In the first semi-final match, Justin Snelling, assistant professional at Boise (Idaho) Ranch Golf Course, defeated Jonathan Gibbs, PGA Director of Instruction at BanBury Golf Course in Boise, Idaho, 4 & 3 to earn the right to play Twin Falls Golf Club’s PGA Assistant Professional Travis Hofland who defeated Ben Bryson, PGA Head Professional at BanBury Golf Course in Boise, Idaho, in the other semi-final match 2 & 1.  The Championship match will be contested Wednesday, October 19th, beginning at 9:40 a.m.  The consolation match will tee off at 9:30 a.m. featuring finalists Shawn Rowe, assistant professional at Highland Golf Course in Pocatello, Idaho, and Taylor Hopkins, assistant professional at Purple Sage Golf Course in Caldwell, Idaho.

             

The Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship is the season’s final tournament for the Snake River Chapter.  It is being contested at the picturesque 6,454 yard par-72 layout at Blue Lakes Country Club in Twin Falls, Idaho, from October 17th thru October 19th.
